To była prawdziwa podróż w czasie i przestrzeni: z chłodnych, zimowych Andów prosto w gorące, wilgotne lato Amazonii. I właśnie to uwielbiam w życiu tutaj – tę niesamowitą różnorodność klimatów, kultur i krajobrazów.
Puerto Maldonado leży u zbiegu rzek Tambopata i Madre de Dios, niedaleko granicy z Brazylią i Boliwią. Miasto nazywane jest stolicą bioróżnorodności Peru, bo właśnie stąd wyrusza się w głąb Amazonii – do takich pereł jak Rezerwat Tambopata czy Park Narodowy Manu.

Together with Agni https://travel.agnivedaa.com and a group of fifteen travelers from Poland, we arrived in Puerto Maldonado – the capital of the Madre de Dios region, located in the very heart of the Peruvian jungle.

It felt like a true journey through time and space: from the cold, wintery Andes straight into the hot, humid summer of the Amazon. And that’s exactly what I love about life here – the incredible diversity of climates, cultures, and landscapes.
Puerto Maldonado lies at the confluence of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers, not far from the borders with Brazil and Bolivia. Known as the biodiversity capital of Peru, it’s the gateway to some of the Amazon’s greatest treasures – such as the Tambopata Reserve and the Manu National Park.
🇵🇱 Nadmiar bagażu zostawiliśmy w hotelu w mieście (poncho i wełniane swetry raczej nie przydałyby się w dżungli), a następnie wsiedliśmy do łodzi i ruszyliśmy w stronę naszego pierwszego lodge.
Rejs z Puerto Maldonado wiódł w głąb amazońskiej puszczy. Już po drodze mogliśmy wypatrzyć pierwszych mieszkańców tych terenów – kapibary i kajmany wygrzewające się na brzegach rzeki, a w koronach drzew kolorowe ary i małpy.

🇬🇧 We left the excess luggage at the hotel in town (ponchos and wool sweaters wouldn’t be of much use in the jungle), then boarded a boat and set off toward our first lodge.
The journey from Puerto Maldonado led us deeper into the Amazon rainforest. Along the way, we spotted the first inhabitants of these lands – capybaras and caimans resting on the riverbanks, while in the treetops colorful macaws and monkeys appeared.
🇵🇱 Jeszcze tego samego dnia wyruszyliśmy na spacer z przewodnikiem – i już od pierwszych chwil mogliśmy podziwiać dziką przyrodę Amazonii w jej pełnym, naturalnym pięknie.
Rezerwat obejmuje ponad 1,5 miliona hektarów lasu tropikalnego. To dom nie tylko dla setek gatunków ptaków, dziesiątek gatunków ssaków i niezliczonej liczby owadów, ale także dla tysięcy roślin. Wiele z nich wykorzystywanych jest przez lokalne społeczności w medycynie naturalnej i codziennym życiu. To jedno z najbardziej bioróżnorodnych miejsc na całej Ziemi!

🇬🇧 That very same day, we set off on a walk with our guide – and from the very first moments we were able to admire the Amazon’s wildlife in all its natural beauty.
The reserve covers more than 1.5 million hectares of tropical forest. It is home not only to hundreds of bird species, dozens of mammals, and countless insects, but also to thousands of plant species. Many of them are still used by local communities for natural medicine and in everyday life. It’s truly one of the most biodiverse places on Earth!

Przyjechaliśmy w idealnym momencie roku, aby doświadczyć jednego z najbardziej niezwykłych zjawisk Amazonii.

🇬🇧 On our first day in Puerto Maldonado, we stayed at a lodge called Collpas Tambopata Inn. The choice wasn’t accidental – it was located just over two hours by boat from our destination. We had arrived at the perfect time of year to witness one of the Amazon’s most extraordinary natural phenomena.

Amazonia to czysta magia życia – pełna harmonii, mądrości natury i chwil, które na zawsze wpisują się w nasze serca.

🇬🇧 As the first rays of sunlight began to pierce through the jungle, an unforgettable spectacle unfolded over the river. A deafening chorus of calls, an explosion of color, and the graceful flight of birds created a performance that stirred every sense. The Amazon is pure magic — a living harmony, filled with the wisdom of nature and moments that stay in our hearts forever.
🇵🇱 Podczas podróży zawsze fascynowały mnie mosty – każdy z nich ma w sobie coś wyjątkowego. Widziałem już wiele, ale linowe mosty w Rezerwacie Tambopata, zawieszone wysoko między koronami drzew i prowadzące wprost do świata canopy, całkowicie mnie oczarowały. Spacer po tych wąskich pomostach, zawieszonych dziesiątki metrów nad ziemią, to niesamowite uczucie – wokół rozciąga się bezkresna, zielona dżungla, pełna życia i dźwięków Amazonii.
Canopy to najwyższa warstwa lasu tropikalnego – zielony dach utworzony przez korony drzew, często sięgające 30–40 metrów nad ziemią. To właśnie tam toczy się najbogatsze życie: barwne ptaki, małpy, motyle i niezwykłe rośliny, których z poziomu ziemi prawie nie sposób zobaczyć.

🇬🇧 I’ve always been fascinated by bridges when I travel – each one has its own kind of magic. I’ve seen many, but the hanging bridges in the Tambopata Reserve, suspended high among the treetops and leading straight into the world of the canopy, completely enchanted me. Walking across those narrow pathways, swaying dozens of meters above the ground, is an incredible feeling – surrounded by the endless green jungle, alive with the sounds and rhythm of the Amazon.
The canopy is the uppermost layer of the rainforest – a lush green roof formed by the crowns of trees, often rising 30 to 40 meters above the forest floor. It’s here that life thrives most intensely: colorful birds, monkeys, butterflies, and extraordinary plants that remain hidden from view down below.

🇵🇱 Pierwsza połowa dnia upłynęła nam aktywnie, odkrywając uroki Rezerwatu Tambopata. Potem przyszła spokojniejsza część dnia – czas spędzony na łodzi i dalsza podróż w głąb Amazonii. To właśnie w takich chwilach odnajduję kwintesencję podróży tutaj. Kocham dżunglę za prostotę i lekkość bycia – za momenty, gdy wystarczy po prostu płynąć, chłonąć intensywną zieleń po obu stronach rzeki, wsłuchiwać się w dźwięki i czuć wiatr na twarzy. Tego dnia pożegnaliśmy nasz pierwszy lodge i ruszyliśmy dalej. Zmiana rzeki oznaczała powrót do Puerto Maldonado, a stamtąd kolejną wyprawę – tym razem na rzekę Madre de Dios , gdzie czekała na nas dalsza przygoda.

🇬🇧 The first half of the day was filled with activity as we explored the beauty of the Tambopata Reserve. Later came a calmer part of the day – time spent on the boat, continuing our journey deeper into the Amazon. It’s in moments like these that I find the true essence of traveling here. I love the jungle for its simplicity and lightness of being – for those times when all you need to do is drift, take in the vibrant green on both sides of the river, listen to the sounds, and feel the wind on your face.
That day, we said goodbye to our first lodge and continued onward. Changing rivers meant returning to Puerto Maldonado, and from there, setting off again – this time along the Madre de Dios River, where the next adventure awaited us.

🇬🇧 Sunsets in the Amazon have something truly special about them. Now that I live in the mountains, I have to climb high to see the full expanse of the sky. But there… all I had to do was simply be. The vastness, the calm, and the simplicity of the jungle turned every sunset into an unforgettable spectacle of nature.

W Amazonii to właśnie o świcie dżungla budzi się do życia – wtedy najłatwiej spotkać dzikie zwierzęta i poczuć spokój, zanim dzień rozgrzeje się od tropikalnego żaru. Prawie każdego ranka wstawaliśmy około 4:00, by w pełni zanurzyć się w rytmie amazońskiej przygody.

🇵🇱 Podczas podróży po rezerwacie Tambopata dotarliśmy do jednego z najbardziej niezwykłych miejsc – nad jezioro Sandoval. To tutaj, w samym sercu amazońskiej dżungli, po raz pierwszy stanąłem twarzą w twarz z drzewem-olbrzymem – Oje (Ficus insipida).
To drzewo wygląda jak żywa katedra. Jego ogromne, rozłożyste korzenie podporowe przypominają filary, które podtrzymują nie tylko pień, ale i całe życie wokół. W dżungli gleba jest zaskakująco uboga w minerały – pod cienką warstwą próchnicy znajduje się twarda, gliniasta ziemia. Właśnie dlatego większość korzeni drzew, zamiast sięgać głęboko, rozrasta się po powierzchni, szukając resztek składników odżywczych i wilgoci. To fascynujące, jak każdy centymetr przestrzeni w lesie tropikalnym jest areną walki o przetrwanie – korzenie, liście, pnącza, wszystko żyje w nieustannym ruchu i rywalizacji o światło, wodę i życie.
Oje to jednak coś więcej niż tylko imponujący organizm biologiczny. To drzewo o wielkim znaczeniu duchowym i leczniczym. Dla lokalnych społeczności Amazonii jest uznawane za święte drzewo życia, łączące niebo i ziemię – symbol harmonii pomiędzy światem ludzi a światem duchów lasu. Jego mleczny sok od wieków stosowany jest w medycynie tradycyjnej jako środek przeciwpasożytniczy i oczyszczający organizm. Miejscowi mawiają, że Oje „chroni ciało i ducha”, tak jak korzenie drzewa obejmują ziemię, czerpiąc z niej siłę.
Stojąc obok tego giganta, trudno nie poczuć pokory wobec potęgi natury. Patrząc w górę, korona drzewa ginie w zielonym sklepieniu lasu, a ja mam wrażenie, jakbym spoglądał w samo serce Amazonii – pulsujące, odwieczne, niepojęte.

🇬🇧 During our journey through the Tambopata Reserve, we reached one of the most remarkable places — Lake Sandoval. It was here, in the very heart of the Amazon jungle, that I first came face to face with a giant tree — the Oje (Ficus insipida).
This tree looks like a living cathedral. Its massive, spreading buttress roots rise like pillars, supporting not only the trunk but all the life around it. In the jungle, the soil is surprisingly poor in minerals — beneath a thin layer of humus lies hard, clay-like earth. That’s why most trees don’t send their roots deep underground; instead, they spread them wide across the surface, searching for every trace of nutrients and moisture. It’s fascinating how every inch of space in the rainforest becomes a stage for survival — roots, leaves, and vines all locked in constant movement and competition for light, water, and life itself.
But the Oje is more than just an impressive living organism. It is a tree of deep spiritual and medicinal significance. For the local Amazonian communities, it is considered the sacred tree of life, connecting heaven and earth — a symbol of harmony between the human world and the spirit world of the forest. Its milky sap has been used for centuries in traditional medicine as a natural antiparasitic and cleansing remedy. Locals say that the Oje “protects both body and spirit”, just as its roots embrace the earth, drawing strength from it.
Standing beside this giant, it’s impossible not to feel humbled by the power of nature. Looking up, the tree’s crown disappears into the green canopy above, and for a moment, it feels as if I’m gazing into the very heart of the Amazon — pulsing, eternal, and beyond comprehension.
🇵🇱 Rezerwat Tambopata i jezioro Sandoval to jedno z najbardziej urzekających miejsc w całej Amazonii. Tropikalna dżungla otula ciszą, przerywaną jedynie śpiewem ptaków i szelestem liści. Wystarczy kilka kroków, by zanurzyć się w świecie, w którym każdy dźwięk, zapach i barwa przypomina o niezwykłej sile natury.
Po porannym spacerze przez gęsty las deszczowy dotarliśmy do niewielkiej przystani. Tam wsiedliśmy do smukłych, drewnianych łodzi, które zabrały nas w głąb jeziora Sandoval. Woda była spokojna jak lustro, odbijając soczystą zieleń koron drzew i błękit nieba. Płynąc, mogliśmy obserwować dzikie życie Amazonii z zupełnie nowej perspektywy – kajmany leniwie wygrzewające się na brzegu, stada papug przelatujących nad wodą, zwinne małpy skaczące między gałęziami, a w powietrzu – niezliczone gatunki ptaków, których śpiew tworzył niepowtarzalną symfonię lasu.
To miejsce tętni życiem, ale jednocześnie emanuje spokojem. Tutaj człowiek przestaje być zdobywcą, a staje się obserwatorem — gościem w świecie, który od zawsze należy do natury.

The tropical jungle wraps you in silence, broken only by the songs of birds and the rustle of leaves. Just a few steps are enough to immerse yourself in a world where every sound, scent, and color reminds you of the incredible power of nature.
After a morning walk through the dense rainforest, we reached a small dock. There, we boarded slender wooden boats that carried us deep into Lake Sandoval. The water was as calm as a mirror, reflecting the lush green of the treetops and the blue of the sky. As we glided along, we could observe the wildlife of the Amazon from an entirely new perspective — caimans lazily basking on the shore, flocks of parrots flying overhead, agile monkeys leaping between branches, and countless species of birds whose songs created a one-of-a-kind symphony of the forest.
This place is full of life, yet it radiates peace. Here, a human ceases to be a conqueror and becomes an observer — a guest in a world that has always belonged to nature.
🇵🇱 Po długim dniu wędrówki wyruszyliśmy ponownie – tym razem nocą. Dżungla po zmroku to zupełnie inny świat. Z każdą minutą, gdy zapadał mrok, las budził się do życia w inny sposób – z drzew dochodziły nieznane odgłosy, a wśród liści migotały refleksy oczu nocnych stworzeń.
Podczas spaceru spotkaliśmy m.in. tarantule, ukryte w szczelinach korzeni i pni drzew. Nasz przewodnik, Apollo, poruszał się po dżungli z niezwykłą pewnością – znał każdy dźwięk, każdy ruch w ciemności. Dzięki niemu mogliśmy zobaczyć Amazonię z zupełnie nowej, fascynującej perspektywy.

🇬🇧 After a long day of hiking, we set out once again — this time, at night. The jungle after dark is an entirely different world. With every passing minute, as darkness fell, the forest came alive in a new way — unfamiliar sounds echoed from the trees, and faint reflections of glowing eyes flickered among the leaves.
During our night walk, we came across tarantulas hiding in the cracks of roots and tree trunks. Our guide, Apollo, moved through the jungle with remarkable confidence — he seemed to know every sound, every motion in the darkness. Thanks to him, we were able to experience the Amazon from a completely new and fascinating perspective.
🇵🇱 Tak bardzo spodobał nam się sposób, w jaki Apollo prowadził nas przez dżunglę, że ostatniego dnia w Rezerwacie Tambopata postanowiliśmy wyruszyć z nim jeszcze raz – na długi, pożegnalny spacer po lesie tropikalnym. To była prawdziwa wisienka na torcie całej podróży!

🇬🇧 We enjoyed the way Apollo guided us through the jungle so much that on our last day in the Tambopata Reserve, we decided to join him once more – for a long, farewell walk through the tropical forest. It was the perfect cherry on top of our entire journey!

🇵🇱 W drodze powrotnej zatrzymaliśmy się na tzw. Małpiej Wyspie. Choć sama wyspa jest naturalna, jej obecni mieszkańcy – małpy – trafili tu dzięki ludziom ponad 30 lat temu.
W tamtym czasie do Puerto Maldonado przyjechali Europejczycy, którzy byli wstrząśnięci tym, jak traktowano zwierzęta: wiele małp było przetrzymywanych na łańcuchach, jako domowe maskotki. Postanowili działać – zorganizowali zbiórkę funduszy i założyli na wyspie mały szpital, aby ratować i leczyć dzikie zwierzęta, nie tylko małpy.
Od tamtej pory w Peru obowiązuje zakaz trzymania dzikich zwierząt jako domowych pupili.
Po zakończeniu rehabilitacji część małp planowano wypuścić na wolność, po drugiej stronie dżungli. Jednak część z nich uciekła i została właśnie tutaj – na wyspie. Przez kolejne trzy dekady rozmnożyły się i stworzyły nową populację, całkowicie przyzwyczajoną do obecności człowieka.
Dziś około 80% małp żyjących na wyspie to potomkowie tamtych pierwszych, uratowanych osobników. Są niezwykle towarzyskie – gdy tylko pojawiają się ludzie, zbiegają z drzew, licząc na smakołyki w postaci owoców.

🇬🇧 On our way back, we stopped by the so-called Monkey Island. Although the island itself is natural, its current inhabitants — the monkeys — were brought here by people over 30 years ago.
Back then, a group of Europeans visiting Puerto Maldonado were shocked by the way animals were being treated. Many monkeys were kept on chains and used as pets. They decided to make a change — raised funds, and established a small rescue center on the island to help and rehabilitate wild animals, not just monkeys.
Since then, keeping wild animals as pets has been completely forbidden in Peru.
After recovery, the plan was to release the monkeys back into the wild on the other side of the jungle. But some of them escaped and stayed on the island. Over the next three decades, they multiplied and formed a new population — one that has grown completely accustomed to human presence.
Today, around 80% of the monkeys living on the island are descendants of those first rescued individuals. They’re incredibly friendly — whenever people arrive, they rush down from the trees, expecting treats of fresh fruit.

Miałem wrażenie, jakbym był tam znacznie dłużej — jakby las pochłonął wszystko, co znajome, zostawiając tylko rytm natury.
Każdy dzień zaczynaliśmy jeszcze przed świtem, a kończyliśmy nocnymi wędrówkami w poszukiwaniu dzikich zwierząt. To była niesamowita przygoda — intensywna, inspirująca i pełna odkryć.
